Opportunities for Growth and Serviceat The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd
ADULT CHOIR - Rehearses from 9:30 to 10:30 am Sunday mornings in the undercroft. Located in the far end corner of the undercroft.
Director: Dennis Searles ALTAR GUILD – Membership in the Altar Guild is an opportunity for women of the congregation to share in Christian service to our church and in service to our Lord. The purpose of the work of the Altar Guild is to SERVE, to serve with SPIRITUAL COMMITMENT, and to serve toward a SPIRITUAL GOAL. We welcome any ladies to join our membership. Chairwoman: Mona Pratt BELL CHOIR – Rehearses Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Some knowledge of music is helpful. Director: Holly Schulze BIBLE STUDY (SUNDAYS) - Pastor Wagner teaches this class 9:45 to 10:30 AM each Sunday in the undercroft of the church. Spring 2004: The Gospel and Epistles of John. Fall 2004: The Books of Ruth and Judges. BIBLE STUDY (WEDNESDAYS) – Our Lifelight Bible Study takes place in two eight-week sessions during the year, meeting from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM. We will be studying the Book of Revelation in the Fall of 2004. CHILDRENS CHOIR – Our new Youth Ensemble, featuring both vocalists and instrumentalists, rehearses Sunday morning from 9:00 to 9:30 am in the Sanctuary . Ages seven to seventeen. Director: Connie Scofield ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN – A volunteer organization that collects, sorts and boxes donated materials to be distributed to people in crisis situations around the world. Hospital and medical supplies, medicine and used clothing are collected at New York Division Warehouse in Albany for shipment to 3rd world countries. Volunteers are needed to fold and pack clothing at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Glens Falls) or help pick up donated supplies and load containers at the warehouse (Albany). The ministry was founded by Rev. Ray Wilke, in Norfolk, Nebraska after he visited Riga, Latvia in 1992. The New York Division (one of 14 divisions across the USA) was founded by Elfie Eberle in 1994. Myron and Myra Smith, Schenectady, NY are Co-Presidents, replacing Elfie Eberle. For more information or interest in volunteering, call the NY Div. telephone 518-382-8685 PARISH NURSE – This is basically a one on one program providing information to any parishioner who is in need of accessing our community health care system. Occasionally throughout the year health focused educational programs are held. Parish Nurse: Lois Wiegert PARISH VISITOR – A group of parishioners who visit the shut-ins and hospitalized members. We also deliver the Altar flowers each week. We are always looking for more people to join us. Coordinator: Lois Wiegert |
CONGREGATIONAL MEETINGS – Congregational meetings are held during the year to promote fellowship, conduct business and keep the congregation informed. Notice of the meetings are given 2 weeks prior to the meeting.
President: Bob Orban CONFIRMATION CLASS – A special 2-year program for young people, we study the truths of the Christian faith as found in The Holy Bible, and as explained in Luther’s Small Catechism. Classes meet Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM during the school year. Monthly activities (such as bowling, skating, hiking sporting events) occur throughout the year. Our class is taught by Pastor Wagner. EVANGELISM - Our Evangelism Committee is always looking for ways to reach out with the Gospel to others, and meetings regularly. LADIES SOCIETY - Ladies of the church meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month from Sept to June for fellowship and to serve the church. President: Pat Rydzy LIBRARY – The church library is located in the Good Shepherd House. Much information is available for study. Also, Christian books for your reading pleasure. Videos also available. The children’s library is in the undercroft of the church. Coordinator: Marilyn Osborne MENS CLUB – One of Good Shepherd’s longest-standing groups, our Men’s Club is very active in sponsoring fellowship opportunities in our church. They are also very active in outreach ministry, particularly in their sponsoring of The Open Door Food Kitchen and The Salvation Army. A more detailed synopsis of our Men’s Club please click here. PRAYER CHAIN – A name may be placed on the Prayer Chain for special prayers, also placed on the Prayer request list for Sunday special prayers. Contact: Betty Johnson SUNDAY SCHOOL – Classes are held 9:30 to 10:30 am each Sunday. Opening is in the Sanctuary. Ages 3 to 17 years. There is no Sunday School in the summer. Sunday School Superintendent: Karen Cummings VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL - is held for one week during the summer. Watch the newsletter and bulletins for information.
